Jenna's six of the best
In-form striker Jenna Hopkins has fired the Welsh women’s under-18 football team to the brink of qualification for the third round of the UEFA championships, scoring six goals in two matches.
Wales go into this afternoon’s final second round game against England knowing that a draw will ensure their progress, but even in defeat they can still qualify for the next stage if they maintain a superior goal difference against the host country, Ireland.
Hopkins, who plays for Cardiff City Ladies scored all the Welsh goal in a 5-2 defeat of Turkey at the weekend and was on target again in a 1-1 draw with Ireland on Monday evening, much to the delight of team manager, Andy Beattie.
“Our game plan and the fantastic ‘hwyl’ of our young players earned us a valuable point,” he said afterwards. “England will be a different proposition altogether, but we have got time to revise our game plan.
"The game is crucial and whether we qualify could go down to goal difference, but we are the favourites behind England at the moment."
