Hopkins hits five for Wales
Cardiff City player Jenna Hopkins has led Wales women’s under-18s to 5-2 victory in their opening match against Turkey in the second round of the UEFA cup putting them at the top of the group.
After just ten minutes Hopkins scored her first of five goals before Turkey equalised five minutes later. Hopkins hit home again after 45 minutes but Turkey managed to redress the balance to draw even once again.
The City player was not to be beaten though and went on to score three more goals in the space of nine minutes.
Coach Michele Adams said, “This victory over Turkey has given us a great boost. We now go into the Irish fixture knowing that it will be fiercely competitive but we’re all in a very confident mood.
“A win will virtually secure a place in round three of the of the UEFA Cup.”
Wales play Ireland before taking on top group seeds England.
